Petrified Wood Cufflinks. Fossil, Earth science, wood shop teacher gift, paleontologist, geologist, cufflink collector. Gift for grandpa
$28.00
Petrified wood is an ancient tree that has fossilized into stone. Petrified wood is usually found in dusty, earth toned colors, but can also be found in bright and brilliant tones based on trace amounts of metals present in the mineralized water and sediment. Our tumbled petrified wood is all from the USA and has been sourced from a collector working with claims in Arizona, Utah and Wyoming.

►ABOUT THE STONES:
Geologically – high carbon content can create a deep black fossil, iron can give the wood a red, yellow, or brown color depending on how oxidized it is, and manganese can create wild arrays of pink and orange.
The Arizona petrified forest is probably the best known in the world due to its vibrantly colored “rainbow wood” and the Petrified Forest National Park. This petrified forest extends over a huge area, around 100k acres, but only a small portion is located within the national park. The fossilized wood found in the Chinle Formation is Late Triassic in age, or approximately 225 million years old. The dominant tree species in the forest is Araucarioxylon arizonicum, a type of conifer related to the still-living “Monkey Puzzle Tree”.
Metaphysically it is associated with the root chakra and is said to help with feelings of grounding, protection, and calm.
►ABOUT THE CRAFTSMANSHIP:
NEW! I use traditional, time-honored lapidary techniques to drill into the stones in order to sink the cufflink hardware deep into the stone’s surface, so your cufflinks will not come apart. This time-consuming process is done in addition to the adhesive and resin layers that attach the stones to the metal cufflink hardware. Most crafters skip this most important drilling (and resin) step.

►ABOUT THE MAKER:
Each pair of cufflinks is unique and one of a kind, and made by hand by printmaker, metalworking artist and Cyberoptix founder, Bethany Shorb. I work between my home base in Detroit, MI and a mobile RV studio Arizona, where I source all our stone, crystal, shell and fossil there and at the Tucson and Quartzsite AZ gem shows. All are intuitively sourced in person, from only the most reputable individual suppliers.
